![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The flight was fine and we were on the ground in Mongolia in no time. The cabin service was pretty good, though the food was a bit greasy. The flight ultimately boarded on time and we left on time as well. After that, I made a circuit around T3E and tried to amuse myself for a few hours waiting for my flight. Unfortunately, I promptly splashed chili oil on my shirt. I had a lot of time to kill at PEK, so I went to the lounge and had some noodles. We arrived in HKG on time and I went to the Bridge Lounge for a quick shower before my next flight. I slept a solid 10-11 hours on this flight, so I arrived in HKG feeling relatively alert. It was complete within 90 minutes of takeoff, which is quite a lot faster than in the past. That said, the meal service was very quick on this flight. You won't be able to get hold of a FA during the meal service. Pro tip: ask for everything you want for the meal when you order. Pretty small portions and less selection than they used to have on this route. My only complaint with this flight was the downgrade in catering in recent months. But the cost was only around $15, versus $60+ for Uber/Lyft. I went to the airport using MBTA commuter rail and Silver Line, which took around 90 minutes. This flight was fairly routine, without any major drama. JNB was the final stop before heading back home. From ADD, I headed to Kenya, Zanzibar, Rwanda, Uganda and finally to South Africa. Luckily, there was good J award inventory from ICN to ADD, so I booked that leg next. Since I'd previously only transited Seoul airside, this would give me an opportunity to get out and see the city. Instead, I flew to ICN and onward to Africa from there. Mongolia has very limited air connectivity and high airfares, so I didn't want to fly west to FRA. I'd been putting off going to Africa, so I figured it was time to dive in. Since I'd already made so much progress in Asia, I needed to start working on Africa. Excluding Mongolia, I'd already finished up the majority of Asia east of India, with Russia, Bhutan and N Korea the only remaining countries. I'd previously attempted (and failed) to visit Mongolia in May 2018, so this ticket to PEK was the perfect opportunity to get that done. Continuing toward my goal of visiting every country, this trip came about because I had an inbound portion of a PEK-BOS-PEK ticket to use. ![]()
